M&P Mechanical is delighted to announce that we have been shortlisted for the District Heating Project of the Year at the upcoming Ireland's Plumbing & Heating Magazine Awards 2025 for our work on the Shanganagh Castle Estate Residential Development, Shankill, Co. Dublin. 👏

Appointed as Mechanical Services Contractor on behalf of Walls Construction LimitedThe Land Development Agency (LDA), and Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council (DLRCC), M&P Mechanical successfully delivered the supply, installation, and commissioning of all mechanical systems on this landmark project.

M&P Mechanical’s scope of works included a comprehensive district heating network, extending from the central energy centre to each apartment’s Heat Interface Unit (HIU). This advanced system provides both space heating and instantaneous domestic hot water, integrating Heat Recovery Ventilation (HRV) to achieve passive house–level performance across all 546 apartments.

The development utilises a centralised air-to-water heat pump system supported by high-efficiency modular gas boilers, with heat distributed through a McCool Controls & Engineering Building Management System (BMS) and Elvaco sub-metering for full remote monitoring, ensuring optimal efficiency, reduced energy costs, and sustainable operation.

Achieving a Building Energy Rating (BER) of A, the Shanganagh Castle Estate reflects exceptional energy performance and a strong contribution to Ireland’s sustainability goals. This large-scale residential scheme represents one of Ireland’s most ambitious low-carbon district heating developments, setting a new benchmark for sustainable living.

👏 A huge congratulations to our M&P Mechanical project team and all involved; another demonstration of our expertise in delivering complex, future-ready energy solutions at scale. 💪
